While visiting my dear friend in Virginia, I discovered a tiny boutique that carried a line of candles and home fragrance products that I won’t soon forget. The candles have become some of my favorite, especially one particular fragrance. Today, let’s find your signature scent with Bridgewater Candles.

Last year I took a nice little week-long trip to Virginia to visit my dear friend Paula from Sweet Pea blog.
It was a wonderful vacation filled with visiting historical sites, a weekend at her lovely lake house, meeting family, and, or course, lots of blog talk!
I don’t know about you, but I always like to take a little sumpin-sumpin home with me from a trip. You know, a little momento to remember the time away. Do you do the same?
Well, on the last day of the trip, just before Paula took me to the airport, we popped into a cute little boutique next to the restaurant where we had a yummy lunch with Paula’s mom and aunt.
And that’s where I discovered Sweet Grace! *cue angels singing*

Bridgewater Candle Company Mission
The Sweet Grace fragrance line from Bridgewater Candle Company is fresh and ‘dreamy’ with notes of exotic passion fruit, sparkling tea and classic patchouli. I’ve never smelled anything quite like it!
As I shopped through the boutique, I kept coming back to the Bridgewater Candle display, and found that Sweet Grace not only came in candle form, but I found wax melts, room spray, laundry detergent, sachets and even an auto vent clip.
Then, the owner of the boutique told me about the Bridgewater Candle mission:
An issue close to our (Bridgewater Candle Co.) hearts is the world hunger crisis, and specifically how it impacts children across the globe. With over three million children dying each year from hunger, the need for change remains an urgent priority. This led us to partner with Rice Bowls, a non-profit organization that provides food for children in orphanages around the world. After finding out about their mission… I pretty much bought one of everything in the Sweet Grace fragrance line that the boutique carried! (Can you blame me?)
So, at the very last minute, I found my momento(s). I went home from my amazing visit with Paula with a wonderful fragrance line that I now consider my signature home scent.
What is a Signature Home Scent?
A “signature scent” or “signature fragrance” is a scent that helps communicate what you believe your home is about. It’s a fragrance that will remind others of your home.
Sweet Grace has a ‘heady’ feminine scent that is fresh and warm at the same time. Bridgewater refers to the fragrance as “warm, peaceful, and pure”. This is what I want my home to feel and smell like, for my friends and family, and me!
And don’t you worry… we can totally use the same signature scent. Because of other fragrances that are specific to each of our homes, candle fragrances mix with those scents and end up smelling lovely, albeit different, in each home!
Plus, Bridgewater Candle Company has an extensive line of fragrances to fit everyone’s individual ‘style’.
How Do You Find Your Signature Scent?
Well, the short of it is, you gotta smell a lot of candles!
Seriously… In order to find your signature scent, be sure to stop and ‘smell the candles’ when you see a new brand or display. I would have never found Sweet Grace if I hadn’t stopped to take a quick whiff.
Warning: If you can smell the wax in a candle, step away from the candle. You’re wastin’ your time!
Look for fragrances that have ‘notes’ that appeal to you. Personally, I love ‘green’ smells… like fresh cut grass, spring meadows, and greenery branches. I also love strong floral notes, like jasmine, peony, and honeysuckle. Finally, a bit of citrus always appeals to me, too.
When you find a unique fragrance that sets-off fireworks in your olfactory system, buy it! Then take it home and use it and see if it works with your home. If it does, purchase several items to layer in your house to get your signature effect.

Sweet Grace Flower Diffuser
A flower diffuser is something I’ve never seen before. Have you?
You open the bottle of fragrance oil (that cork was a bit tricky to remove… just twist and rock the lid back and forth), take the flower and extend the fabric-covered wire, and then insert the flower into the bottle.
Remember to be sure to have the flower sitting level on the bottle (per the instructions).
This is what my flower looked like when I first placed in on the shelf.
And this is what it looked like after letting it sit overnight.
And now, as I look on my kitchen shelf, the color has intensified even more and the flower is ‘blooming’! The fragrance that is emitted is perfect… not overpowering, yet I get wafts of fragrance through-out my living area that is just delightful!
After about two months, the color will dissipate from the flower, and it will be time to get a new diffuser.
Sweet Grace Candle #008
Bridgewater also sent me this lovely mercury glass jar candle filled with the Sweet Grace fragrance. The light amber color matches perfectly with my DIY’d basket that holds my cookbook and dishwashing liquid!
Remember, before you light a candle, be sure to clip the wick down to about 1/4 inch. (Except for tealights… you can just light those.)
Isn’t the shell detail so pretty?
This candle #022 is something I purchased a few weeks ago at a local store that carries the Bridgewater Candle line. It was fun to be able to smell lots of the fragrances ‘in person’, but Sweet Grace is still my fave!
By the way, if you want to smell before you buy, you can find local boutiques and stores that carry Bridgewater products by using their store locater.
And, I love the Sweet Grace room spray, as well as the sachets (not pictured). They are two of my favorite products!
The hand sanitizer is a fairly new product, but because of skin issues, I won’t be able to use this product. However, my loss will be one of my readers’ gain!
