Today and for the next week, we are celebrating! My Wee Abode and First Day of Home, together, are having a third blogiversary celebration and giveaway!
THIRD BLOGIVERSARY CELEBRATION AND GIVEAWAY
It’s Crissy here from First Day of Home, and I’m taking over this “wee abode” for a day! Julie gave me the keys to her blog so I can take you on a trip down memory lane. It’s my way of toasting one of my blogging “besties.”
Why, you may ask? Because we’re both celebrating three years of blogging this very month! Oh, the stories I could tell!

Whether you’re new here or a loyal follower, I hope you’ll enjoy learning more about Julie as I share my favorite five posts of hers.
First, I’ll give you a little background on how we met and what it means to be blogging BFFs…
Newbie Bloggers Unite
“Oh please, God, just give me one good friend coming out of this conference,” I prayed. It was the summer of 2018, and I felt desperate to find someone who understood the craziness of beginner blogging. I had signed up for the annual Haven Conference to find my people!
That’s when I met Julie.
We chatted in an elevator discussing the free sinks we had just won at the conference. (My husband has since asked me not to win any more “free” sinks, but that’s another story!)
Over the course of several months, Julie and I began sharing stories, questions, and frustrations. Our direct message history grew longer and longer.
Before we knew it, we became much more than blogging colleagues. We now share in the joys and sorrows of everyday life, and we cheer each other on when we cross milestones. It’s rare that a day goes by without a text to say hello.
Since I’ve had a front-row seat to Julie’s growth as a blogger, I’m eager to tell you all about my favorite posts she’s written. There are some real gems in here!
My Favorite ‘My Wee Abode’ Posts
It’s hard to choose just five favorite articles from Julie’s site! What I love most about her blog is how you can learn to adapt any theme or occasion to a small-home setting.
(I wish this blog had existed when I lived in apartment!)
#1: Affordable Storage Solutions for Small Bathrooms
There’s a reason this post on small bathroom storage has gotten shared over 1,900 times! Who doesn’t need smart storage options for this part of the house, regardless of home size?

I especially love the hanging baskets to hold towels. This little hack marries form with function so well. In fact, House Beautiful agreed. They featured this post as one of 30 impactful DIY projects for the year!
#2: Coastal Farmhouse Wood Bead Garland
Do you own a wood bead garland yet? These little home decor accents have been trending over the past few years, and Julie’s DIY coastal version is as pretty as they come!

Beyond her reputation as the home decor guru for small homes, Julie is known for her coastal style. This blue ombre garland with rustic tassels stands out as a must-have. I love the beachy vibe!
Plus, Julie shows you how to customize this tutorial for different seasons. Brilliant!
#3: DIY Velvet Pumpkins
Surely, Julie knew I would include this tutorial for DIY velvet pumpkins in my top 5 list! I’ve told her countless times how much I love it.

I’m especially fond of this post because I remember how proud Julie was of her achievement. Rightly so! These plush pumpkins look just as gorgeous as ones sold in high-end home decor shops.
I now affectionately call her the “velvet queen.”
#4: Early Spring Succulent Wreath
On My Wee Abode, you can choose from many lovely DIY wreath tutorials. This 10-minute spring succulent wreath stands out to me because a) it’s so on-trend with the succulent accents and b) Julie has repurposed the wreath in multiple ways over the years.

Part of what Julie does so expertly is show her readers how to decorate in budget-friendly ways without sacrificing beauty. She’s not afraid to switch up decor to suit her needs or the season.
Don’t we all aspired to do that — create a beautiful home with minimal effort and waste?
#5: Modern Coastal Bathroom
This was a moment when I saw Julie dare to dream big! Trust me, these modern coastal bathroom plans took courage to prepare and execute.

I saw Julie meticulously devise her plans, get permission from her landlord, and consult with some of her esteemed blogging mentors in the process. This type of multi-week project is a huge investment of time and energy. Just look how beautifully those plans turned out, too!
Both as a reader and as a friend, I’ve enjoyed watching her project evolve and come to life. It inspires me to tackle those big project ideas I have as well.
More to Come
I’m so thankful that God answered my prayers at that conference, beyond measure. Not only has Julie become a treasured friend, but she also has a way of folding others into the blogging network. I’ve met many blogging pals over the years, thanks in part to Julie.
The years ahead promise more great adventures and lots of DIY decorating. I can’t wait to celebrate them together!
